ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A would-be car thief took the bait but got away into an Albuquerque neighborhood has been captured, police report.
A police K-9 took down the unidentified suspect shortly before 5:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Nicholas SW.
Police said the suspect was refusing to divulge his identity and had given detectives several different names.
Earlier a search locked down the neighborhood around 86th Street SW and Tower Road. That's south of Bridge Boulevard and west of Unser Boulevard.
A brief statement from Albuquerque police indicated the suspect stole a bait vehicle set out to catch car thieves.
Normally police let the thief drive a short distance before disabling the car and arresting the offender. In this case the driver took off on foot before police could make the collar, the statement said.
