FARMINGTON, N.M. (KRQE) - Farmington police have charged a man in the beating death of 47-year-old Robert Bustos.

Detectives say Mike Barber, 47, kicked Bustos repeatedly in the head with steel-toed boots killing him.

Bustos' battered body was found July 7 in a field behind a Safeway store.

According to investigators Bustos was drinking with Barber and two women in the field the day before. They believe Barber became upset when Bustos may have made a pass at one of the woman.

Barber is charged with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence. He's already in jail on another charge.
