Police shoot, kill escaped inmate

Second escapee caught Friday morning

ARCHULETA COUNTY, Colo. (KRQE) - One of two Colorado jail escapees has been shot and killed near Dulce in Northwestern New Mexico. Police were pursuing his companion, New Mexico State Police reported late Thursday afternoon. Police caught the second suspect early Friday morning.

It is not yet clear which of the two men is dead.

According to State Police the escapee was shot by an officer from Jicarilla Apache tribal police force who was defending himself from an attack. Details of the confrontation have not yet been released.

Officers were acting on a report from a passerby who saw the men north of U.S. Highway 64 east of Dulce.  Responding police found the men in an abandoned trailer or RV.

The second escapee fled on foot, and police hunted for him for nearly a day, until he was captured early Friday morning in Rio Arriba County.

A report in the Pagosa Sun said the shooting occurred in Archuleta County, Colo., near the junction of Montezuma and Coyote Roads about 10 miles northeast of Dulce.

Two Archuleta County inmates are on the run from police after a brazen escape on Tuesday night.

Police said Jason Snow, 24, and Clifford Todd Reseigh, 45, assaulted two prison guards and swiped a vehicle. The guards received minor injuries.

Snow and Reseigh headed south on U.S. Highway 84 until their vehicle was spotted by an Archuelta County Deputy. The vehicle was found abandoned in the area of County Roads 359 and 391. The fugitives are thought to be on foot.

Five police agencies are on the scene.

  • 5 feet, 7 inches
  • Brown hair and blue eyes
  • Weighs between 150 to 195 pounds

Clifford Todd Reseigh

  • White male
  • 5 feet, 11 inches
  • Brown hair and brown eyes
  • Weighs approximately 230 pounds

Snow was being held on pending sentencing for felony convictions of first-degree assault, tampering with physical evidence and leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury. Reseigh was being held on a parole violation. Snow and Reseigh are considered armed and dangerous. If you see them call police.
