FARMINGTON (KRQE) - Farmington police have released details about what led an officer to shoot and kill a man on Tuesday.
When officers arrived at the home on Loma Linda Avenue they say they were confronted by Mark Chavez, 49. The Farmington man was armed with some sort of weapon, according to the officers.
Investigators say Chavez wouldn't put the weapon down even after being shot with a stun-gun dart.
Sgt. Shawn Scott then fired his service pistol at Chavez when he said the man advanced toward them.
Chavez died at the hospital.
The sergeant is on paid leave, which is standard procedure while police investigate.
