ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque police Friday identified the pedestrian hit and killed on Montgomery Boulevard NE as a 49-year-old woman who was jaywalking.

Yvonne Trujillo was trying to cross the six-lane thoroughfare at about 5 p.m. when she was struck in the eastbound lanes between Louisiana Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue. She died at the scene.

Witnesses told police Trujillo was jaywalking.

The preliminary investigation found the woman driving a red Volkswagen tried to stop when she saw Trujillo but was unable to avoid the collision. The driver's name has not yet been released.

Police also said there was no sign of alcohol playing a role in the fatality.

The investigation shut down Montgomery, which was not fully open again until about 7:30 p.m.
