ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An attempted armed robbery went bad quickly for the gunman Friday night when a store clerk pulled out his own weapon and began blasting away.
The would-be robber and the clerk exchanged gunfire in the PDQ gas station and store at Fortuna Road and Coors Boulevard SW at about 8:30 p.m., according to Albuquerque police.
The clerk was not injured and told officers he didn't know if he hit the robber who fled into the night.
A neighbor told KRQE News 13 she heard five or six shots and saw a man run to pickup truck, jump in and speed away.
The only description of the robber is that he was wearing a gray hoodie. The store has security cameras although it's not known if they were operating and what they recorded.
At 10:30 p.m. the store remained an active crime scene swathed in yellow perimeter tape. Police also we checking hospitals for any gunshot victims who might appear seeking treatment.
