ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - According to sheriff's deputies, a New Mexico grandma who was supposed to be babysitting her grandchildren was found drunk.
Jeanette Sanchez, 56, was allegedly very drunk when deputies found her babysitting her 8-year-old and 10-year-old grandkids Friday.
When deputies questioned her inside her apartment on Isleta in southwest Albuquerque, they say she actually opened up another beer and tried to drink it.
A neighbor told deputies that the kids' mother was never around and has been apparently paying the kids' grandma with beer and cigarettes to babysit.
Sanchez appeared in court Sunday, charged with child abuse and neglect.
A judge set her bond at $2,500.
“You'll not return to the location of the alleged incident, you'll not possess or consume any alcohol or illegal drugs or enter into any liquor establishments,” Judge Henry Alaniz said.
That could be especially difficult.
According to the criminal complaint, Sanchez told deputies she drinks between eight and 30 beers a day.
