Police catch shoplifting ringleader

ALBUQEURQUE (KRQE) - Rodney Segura was spitting mad as he left APD in cuffs Wednesday morning.

Detectives say Segura has been stealing from home improvement stores, and then using homeless people to return the stole items for refunds.

They say he ripped off Home Depot for $17,000 and Lowes for $15,000.

“The funny thing was today when we arrested him, we actually took him into custody at Lowes, Lowes theft prevention got involved they recognized Rodney Segura as someone who has been doing the same thing at their stores,” Lieutenant Shawn O’Connell said.

Police say Segura recruited 22 people from homeless shelters to help with his scheme.

It's not clear if they'll be charged but he's facing a long list of crimes.
