ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Con artists are trying to separate PNM customers from their credit-card information, according to the Albuquerque Police Department.
APD reports the scheme involves calling businesses and individuals and claiming their last PNM payment did not go through.
The target of the scheme is then asked to make a credit-card payment over the phone to avoid having their electricity cut off.
A similar con is being reported in the Alamogordo area.
"Please use caution and do not give out your personal or banking/credit card information to strangers over the telephone," APD said in a statement released to the news media on Thursday.
