Paranoid pot farmer busted after calling cops

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (KRQE) - It was the marijuana grower himself who called police to his Alamogordo home leading to the discovery of an indoor plantation, guns and money, according to the city's Department of Public Safety.

Police said Samuel Delgado, 42, called late in January to report he thought someone was out to get him.

Detectives said when they got to his house he had security cameras all around.

"He actually said that he saw somebody outside his home, and then whenever he left he thought they may have gone inside," Detective Troy Thompson said. "And that's when he gave the officers permission to be able to go inside the residence and look for somebody that was willing to harm him."

The officers didn't find anyone dangerous in the home in the 1400 block of Discovery, but they did discover 102 pot plants, grow equipment, nearly $12,000 cash and 18 semiautomatic guns.

Thompson said Delgado appeared to be under the influence of drugs when he called authorities and may have been hallucinating.
    
The federal Drug Enforcement Administration took custody of Delgado on federal charges.  He is now in the Doña Ana County Detention Center in Las Cruces and charged with manufacturing marijuana.

Thompson said Delgado told agents he was not distributing the marijuana and instead claimed he was growing it all for his own personal stash.

The Otero County Narcotics Enforcement Unit also assisted in the investigation.
