Owners of stolen loot sought by police

Public invited to view recovered property

SANTA FE (KRQE) - Santa Fe police are seeking the owners of a huge stash of stolen items including around 200 pieces of jewelry in hopes of linking suspected burglars to more crimes.

The stash of stolen goods at the Santa Fe Police Department headquarters is growing.

Since the department’s Operation Full Court Press began two months ago, officers have arrested dozens of people. Many of them have been charged with burglary.

Lt. Louis Carlos said where there are burglary suspects there is bound to be a slew of stolen property.

“We are looking at about 200 pieces of different jewelry, maybe even more,” Carlos said.
Detectives have bags of evidence linked to suspects, he added.

An entire table of stolen goods has ties to one group of three people.

Those suspects are already facing burglary charges for other crimes. However, if detectives can link some of these items to other home burglaries, then more charges will come.

That's why police will open their doors Friday and Saturday to the public hoping they can identify their belongings.

Carlos said they understand not every item carries great monetary value.

“Usually the high-end pieces of jewelry taken are sold, bartered and fenced, by the suspects,” Carlos said.

However, he said other unique items that could hold sentimental value will draw in the public.

Those items include everything from rosaries, crucifixes, even scapulars that could represent someone's first Holy Communion to unique necklaces, a lot watches, rings and broaches and pins.

“For example this piece, I’m certain belongs to a grandmother with grandchildren,” Carlos said while displaying a gold-colored pin with three small shoes on it.

The public viewing will be at Santa Fe Police Department headquarters, 2515 Camino Entrada, on Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Police ask you bring identification to view the jewelry.
