SANTA FE (KRQE) - A Santa Fe man whose pit bulls are accused of killing a Chihuahua and attacking its owner apparently doesn't want his dogs back.

But the Santa Fe New Mexican reports Gerald Matthew's lawyer says he doesn't want them put down either.

A judge is considering whether to order the pit bulls euthanized.

Matthews, 23, faces misdemeanor charges of keeping vicious animals and letting them run at large.

Matthews' dogs are believed to have jumped a fence and attacked the Chihuahua last month and bitten its owner several times.

The victim, Anne Stills, attended the hearing and called the dogs vicious.
