ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque man is using YouTube to try to nail the thieves who ransacked his business on Christmas. He posted surveillance video of the Christmas crooks in action, and he posted a reward to go along with it.
The intruders had no idea what they were getting when they broke into glass-making workshop. Some of the pieces they took are collector’s items, and the owner wants them back.
It was just after 11:00 o'clock Christmas night, “You can see the door start to rattle and shake and it last about seven or eight seconds and it just pops open,” said Greymatter Glass owner Doug Harroun.
The two masked burglars search the shop near Carlisle and Candelaria and quickly start taking out equipment.
“They took welding equipment, carving equipment, power tools in general,” said Harroun. “20 thousand is what I came up with right now just based on watching what I could see in the videos was taken.”
Harroun said the shop specializes in custom pieces.
“We do high-end functional art glass, we make marbles, beads, sculptures we really try to hit a broad range… It's not like you can go down to a store and buy this stuff, they are gallery pieces and the loss, it's grief,” Harroun said.
The intruders even took some of Harroun's personal collection. Now he's taken his grief to the web, posting the surveillance video on YouTube and Facebook along with pictures of some of the stolen pieces.
“The more people we can get this video out to the better the chances of finding somebody that might be able to just lead to a name or a clue,” said Harroun.
Even though the guys were masked, he hopes someone will recognize them. For now he's barricaded the door, installed an alarm and checking to see what else the thieves made off with.
The thieves actually came back twice that night to get everything they wanted; they also just broke things they decided they didn't want.
The shop is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to an arrest or the return of the items.
