SANTA FE (KRQE) - Scott Owens admitted in court Wednesday that he drove drunk last March although his final punishment has not been determined.
The Santa Fe Municipal Court judge sentenced Owens to a year of probation, a penalty that could increase if a previous conviction is admitted into the case.
The judge also ordered the ankle monitor Owens has worn since March removed.
Owens' first DWI conviction was in 2001, but his lawyer is trying to have it thrown out because there's no written record of it in court files.
"That has to be on the record," attorney Dan Marlowe said. "It has to be clear, and it has to be done by the rules of the Municipal Court."
In 2009 Owens admitted he was drunk when he was involved in a head-on crash southeast of Santa Fe that killed four teenagers.
But he was acquitted of vehicular homicide after the evidence and testimony left it unclear which car crossed the center line.
He was not charged with DWI in that case.
