Over 1,000 ex-cons hiding from the law

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Alarming numbers released Saturday show more than 1,000 convicted felons in New Mexico are hiding from the law.
Documents obtained by the Associated Press show around 1,500 ex-convicts have violated their parole or probation and are on the run.
About one third of them are violent offenders.
Too often those violators commit more crimes when they should be back behind bars.
The problem prompted the State Corrections Department to create a fugitive apprehension team.
However, prison officials say if they were able to round up all the absconders it could lead to prison overcrowding.
