SANTA FE (KRQE) - New Mexico State Police Thursday arrested Alex Redhorse of Gallup in the murders of two people whose burned bodies were found in the Cibola National Forest.

Redhorse, 18, faces two open counts of murder in the deaths of Alec Armijo and Dusty Rye, both 20-year-old residents of Gallup.  Redhorse also was charged with tampering with evidence.

Details supporting the arrest are contained in an investigator's affidavit ordered sealed by a judge.

Armijo's body was found Monday in a burned-out car near McGaffey Lake about 15 miles southeast of Gallup.  Rye's body, which also had been burned, was located a couple of hundred yards away.

Investigators later said both had been shot to death and that no weapons were found at the scene.

A mountain biker on a popular route in the Cibola National Forest reported the burned car to police on Monday.  Investigators said the crime may have occurred on Sunday.
