OMI: Youngster died from beating

POJOAQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - An autopsy shows the Pojoaque child who died in January was beaten to death.

The state Office of the Medical Investigator released the findings Tuesday stating 3-year old Leland Valdez died as a result of blunt force injuries to the head and neck.

His mother, Tabetha van Holtz, 22, and her boyfriend, Steven Gallegos, 20, are charged with child abuse resulting in death and other alleged crimes.

They have both plead not guilty in the case.
