FARMINGTON, N.M (KRQE) - Police say they had to shoot a man who threatened them with a weapon overnight in Farmington.
Farmington police say officers were responding to a domestic violence call at a home on Leighton Avenue just before midnight.
When they arrived, police say an officer was confronted by a man with a large edged-weapon.
That is when they say the officer opened fire.
The suspect was taken to the hospital where he later died.
The officer involved has been placed on paid leave.
State police are now investigating.
