Officer-involved shooting was a suicide

SANTA FE (KRQE) - Autopsy results are in from a shooting in December 2010 near Interstate 25.

The results showed a U.S. Marine was shot in the chest during a confrontation with state police, but according to the Santa Fe New Mexican, the shot that killed 27-year-old Diego Gonzales was to his head and came from his own gun.

Gonzales abducted his pregnant wife and child from Pecos on Dec. 29.

Officers spotted their truck near Santa Fe, but before they could pull Gonzales over, he started shooting out the window. That is when officers returned fire.

The Santa Fe District Attorney said with the death ruled a suicide, the case is now closed.
