LOS LUNAS, N.M. (KRQE) - An unidentified man was shot by police on Sunday in Los Lunas. The man is still alive. Reports said the man was armed with a gun when officers shot him.
The shooting took place at 415 Blaylock Lane and Los Lentes Road in Los Lunas, northwest of Main Street and 314.
Reports said the officer was sent to the home late Sunday afternoon after a call about shots being fired in the area. Officers got to the scene and did not see people outside, so they knocked on the door of the house.
A man, later identified as Nicholas Anzures, 58, came out of the house with his hands up. He was taken into custody. Another man exited the house, armed with a handgun, according to police reports. Officers commanded that the second man, later identified as Michael Anzures, 34, to drop his weapon. According to the report, Michael Anzures raised his weapon and pointed it at one of the officers. That officer, later identified as Officer Santiago Beyal, shot Michael Anzures. The officers treated the gunshot wound until emergency vehicles could get to the scene, according to police.
Michael Anzures was taken to University of New Mexico hospital where he underwent surgery. He is currently listed in stable condition, according to police.
State police are investigating this incident, as is procedure with officer-involved shootings.
Michael Anzures faces charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon and negligent use of a deadly weapon.
