ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The Griego murders is not the first time New Mexicans have been shocked by allegations that a child has committed murder.

In the past few years there have been at least five shocking and brutal cases were children have turned violent.

Just a few months ago police were called to another shocking scene.

They say 14-year-old Tony Day shot and killed his adoptive mother and sister inside their Tucumcari home.

It is still unclear why he committed the murders. Day has pleaded not guilty.

Two other teenagers who had been in the state's care are also charged with murder.

Cops say the 15-year-olds, Alexis Shields and Desiree Linares, strangled their foster mother inside her San Patricio home in June of 2011.

Cops say the teens stole their foster mother's car, cell phone and laptop.

They are both set for trial and could be tried as adults.

Two of the four teenagers that cops say beat a woman to death over beer in 2011 are already serving time in prison.

Sixteen-year-olds, Malachi Coleman and Terone Collins have already pled guilty to their part in the case.

Jonathan Duncan, 17, and 18-year-old Juan Diego are still awaiting trial and could be charged as adults.

Cops say they beat their neighbor to death with a towel bar and robbed her after she allegedly took beer away from the teens.

Benjamin Hilburn's case is still working its way through the court system.

Hilburn was just 10-years-old in 2009 when investigators say he shot his father in the head because he was upset over how strict his father was.

Last summer a judge ruled the Belen boy's sister, the only witness to the crime, would not testify against her brother.

And maybe the most infamous case of them all involved Cody Posey.

He was released from prison two years ago when he turned 21-years-old.

Posey was 14-yewars-old in 2004 when he shot and killed his father, step-mother and step-sister.

It happened on famed news man Sam Donaldson’s ranch.

Posey was convicted as a juvenile and that is why his sentence was short.
