Neighbor finds a dead man in field

Detectives calling death suspicious

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Detectives could have another murder case on their hands after a man is found dead in a field in the deep South Valley Thursday morning.

Bernalillo County dispatchers got a call around 11 a.m. Thursday about a body in a field off Second Street SW where it comes to a dead end near Interstate 25.

The body was under the brush and appeared to be hidden behind huge blocks. The dead man was lying face down among trash and even tires in an area that appeared to be a dumping ground.

However, neighbors never thought they would find a corpse lying there, too.

“A neighbor had been driving around and stated she saw what she thought was a dead body next to the railroad tracks,” Bernalillo County Sgt. Sam White said.

Detectives are calling the death suspicious. They have not said the man was murdered although the homicide team and detectives started combing through the field looking for clues.

For some of the detectives it's the second such case they've taken on recently.

Three weeks ago, a passerby found the naked body of Amanda Wiley, 18, floating in a North Valley ditch. The high school senior was murdered by a gunshot in the head.

Detectives are still trying to piece together the night she was killed. However, finding eyewitnesses hasn't been easy.

It is a challenge that detectives could face in Thursday’s case since few cars pass through that desolate road.

At last report detectives had not identified the man.
