ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A suspected child killer found hiding out in Mexico after more than six years will be extradited back to New Mexico soon, but it looks like the state pen will be his new home.
Fugitive Noe Torres will be taken to the Curry County jail first, but District Attorney Matt Chandler said he'll ask a court to transfer Torres as soon as possible to the state pen.
Torres, 32, was arrested Wednesday in Mexico after sending a letter to Gov. Susana Martinez asking for her help dismissing the charges.
Instead she gave the letter and location to Chihuahua Gov. César Duarte and asked for his help in capturing the wanted man.
Torres is accused of being part of a gang that fired multiple bullets into an apartment in Clovis in September 2005 killing 10-year-old Carlos Perez as he slept.
Investigators are still looking Edward Salas, who was convicted in the killing but broke out of jail in Curry County in 2008.
Detectives believe the two were hiding out together in Mexico.
