Man killed by officers has long record

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - Albuquerque Police identified the man killed after a chase and SWAT standoff as 41-year-old Parrish Dennison.

Chief Ray Schultz says three officers shot at Dennison hitting him three of four times in the chest and stomach area, after he ignored commands to drop the gun he was holding.

Dennison is from San Juan County.

Chief Shultz said he has ties to prison and white supremacy gangs.

Deputies in the northern New Mexico county told KRQE News 13 Dennison has a long record and that he has been arrested for everything from car theft and aggravated battery to dealing meth.

He had three active warrants out for his arrest when he ran from Albuquerque Police Tuesday.

Deputies said Dennison has bolted from them in the past as well.

Still photos released by APD from their helicopter Wednesday afternoon showed Dennison hiding in some hedges in front of an office complex on Menaul near Chama. 

Chief Schutlz said after some time Dennison decided to make a run for it, jumping over a car and running West across Chama Street.

Once across the street the chief said he tried to kick his way into a closed café but was unsuccessful.

"As he bounced off he came down onto his knees facing officers just north of his location, still had the firearm in his hand at which time officers did deploy their weapons striking the subject," Chief Schultz said.

APD would only release the last names of the officers who fired their weapons sighting Dennison's links to white supremacy gangs.
