LAS CRUCES (KRQE) - The man accused of locking up of an 8-year-old girl with developmental disabilities in a wooden cage has been indicted.
The Las Cruces Sun-News reports 37-year-old Edmond Gonzales is now indicted on five counts of child abuse and one of child abandonment.
Police say Gonzales and his girlfriend, Cindy Patriarchias left the girl in a makeshift bed police described as a "wooden cage" last month.
The couple then took three other children to the movies.
Indictment documents show Gonzales has previous convictions for drug trafficking, possession and attempted unlawful use of an ATM card.
The girlfriend, who is also the aunt of the girl, was arrested in the case but has not been indicted.
