ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A San Juan County man is accused of hitting a deputy with his truck and leading others on a lengthy chase.
Deputy Justin Rieker suspected 22-year-old Jose Velasquez was under the influence – so he went to talk to him.
When Rieker asked Velasquez to get out of the car, he said the man stepped on the gas throwing him from the vehicle. The deputy hit his head on the pavement and Velasquez then ran over his hand.
He then took off leading deputies on a lengthy chase – one deputy crashed in the process.
Velasquez was eventually arrested along with his passenger, Amy Oros.
Deputies say she interfered when they tried to arrest Velasquez.
