Man found guilty in Halloween hit-&-run

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A guilty verdict was given Monday against the driver in the hit and run death of Carlsbad mother on Halloween night 2010.
Jurors convicted Gilbert Melendrez Junior Monday of vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident, tampering with evidence, and child abuse.
Melendrez ran down Leora Jean Dyess as she was helping children cross the street while trick or treating.
Dyess was able to shove the kids, including two of her own, out of the way but she couldn't get herself to safety.
Police think Melendrez was drunk at the time of the crash but they were never able to prove it.
