DEMING, N.M. (AP) - Luna County residents are being inundated with calls said to be from Chino Federal Credit Union.

Deming police say the calls are fake and those who have accounts there are warned not to reveal any information.

The calls seek personal information, especially a Social Security number.

Authorities say scammers also use e-mails to solicit information.

Such e-mails may announce suspicious activity on an account at a certain bank or business, on the chance some will respond with personal information.

Law enforcement says you should not respond to e-mails if you have an account with a named bank or business. Instead, contact the bank or business yourself to determine if there is a problem.
