Kidnapped teen found safe in NM

RATON, N.M. (KRQE) - New Mexico State Police arrested David Karan, 36, Wednesday night for the abduction of Alyssa Rehfield, 16, of Richmond, Texas.

State police, assisted by the FBI and Raton police, pursued the suspect in northeast New Mexico after an AMBER alert was issued on Tuesday. Karan was found in his 1995 Ford Aspire with the victim.

Karan was taken into custody on a $150,000 cash-only warrant and will be held here until extradition back to Texas is complete. Rehfield was reported to be in good health and was anxiously awaiting her mother to pick her up, according to Lt. Eric Garcia.

“This is a perfect example of a partnership between agencies. We commend the New Mexico State Police for their active role and the recovery of our abducted child,” said Beth Alberts, CEO, Texas Center for the Missing.
