ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the machete killing of another Kewa Pueblo resident.
Federal prosecutors in Albuquerque say 22-year-old Adrian Chavez entered a plea agreement Monday.
He faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment when he's sentenced at a future date.
Chavez has been in federal custody since his arrest on Oct. 24, 2009. He remains detained pending his sentencing hearing.
Prosecutors say Chavez originally was indicted for first-degree murder in the killing of 20-year-old Nevin Garcia during an argument on Oct. 21, 2009.
Chavez turned himself in to the Kewa Pueblo Tribal Office later that night.
Two co-defendants remain in federal custody, charged with being accessories after the fact. The two men pleaded not guilty in January 2010, but have change of plea hearings Tuesday.
