ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A federal jury has awarded a New Mexico man millions of dollars in damages for his treatment behind bars.

The jury set $22 million for Stephen Slevin who spent almost two years in solitary confinement at the Dona Ana County jail.

His attorney says Slevin was even forced to pull his own tooth because jail officials wouldn't let him see a dentist.

Slevin was jailed after a DWI arrest.

Charges were later dropped.
