Judge tightens bond for chase suspect

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The man Albuquerque police say led a dangerous high speed chase through the city two days ago appeared in court Saturday facing a judge who didn't cut the suspect any breaks.

Daniel Archuleta is charged with aggravated eluding police and transferring or receiving a stolen SUV.

Police first found Archuleta Thursday because he resembled the description of a suspected armed robber at a Blake's Lotaburger.  It turns out he wasn't the robber.

Still, when officers approached him, he sped off in what police would learn was a Mitsubishi SUV reported stolen on Dec. 18.

Sky News 13 caught the chase on camera as Archuleta drove the wrong way on some streets, drove over medians and almost hit several other cars and a school bus.

In court a background investigator recommended changing Archuleta's bond from $20,000 cash or 10 percent surety to $20,000 cash-only given his extensive criminal history.

"I think that's a fair request given the history, sir," Metropolitan Court Judge Daniel Ramcyzk said.  "I'll set your bond at $20,000 cash-only, and I'll do a 10-day rule case.

"That means state has until Feb. 8 to get an indictment against you in this case."

Archuleta has a list of warrants for traffic violations and driving while his license was revoked.

Online records show he's also been convicted of a DWI, of stealing a car and of an armed robbery.

During the chase, Archuleta dropped off a woman near a Taco Bell at Central Avenue SE and Dorado Court.

Police said they were still looking for both the woman and the armed robber who first sparked the high-speed pursuit Thursday.
