ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - During a motions hearing Thursday, an Albuquerque judge turned down the Jemez Mountain Schools' request to continue a freeze on the assets of a woman accused of embezzling $3.4 million from a the small district.
The hearing Thursday related to the civil lawsuit filed against Kathy Borrego, who is also facing criminal charges of embezzlement and tax evasion.
Borrego, who worked as the business manager of the 375-student district, is accused of writing more than 500 checks to herself, her boyfriend and her daughter over the course of seven years.
She posted bond late last month, but the judge in the criminal charges ordered her to be placed under house arrest and wear an electronic monitoring bracelet.
