ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque man accused of robbing a bank and then killing two women in a car while trying to escape has been indicted by a federal grand jury.
Jeremiah Jackson, 31, stands accused of holding up the New Mexico Bank and Trust on Louisiana Boulevard NE late on the morning of April 6. An Albuquerque police officer quickly spotted a car matching one used by the robber and followed in onto Interstate 40 and west across the Rio Grande.
Jackson is alleged to have exited I-40 at Coors Boulevard NW and while trying to escape from the officer lost control of his van while turning east on Quail Road. There he crossed the median and hit a car stopped for the light killing Kimberly Aragón-Nuñez, 34, and Janice Flores, 28, the indictment charges.
After a brief foot chase Jackson was taken into custody, Albuquerque police said at the time.
Jackson faces a mandatory life sentence if convicted with the possibility of a death sentence if prosecutors decide to pursue one.
The grand jury indictment was filed on Tuesday and released to the news media on Thursday.
