Intruder prompts lockdown at school, church

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An apparent intruder at a big northeast Albuquerque church sent the area into lockdown Tuesday morning.
    
Police say an alleged intruder had been working at the church as part of a cleaning crew, but now he is in jail.
    
Police say the intruder was found after an employee showed up at Copper Pointe Church around 7 a.m. and found the suspect inside.
    
That is when the church employee called 911.
    
Police thought there might have been more people in the church and suspected there might be a burglary in process.
    
They say the alleged intruder was not making much sense.
    
Both Copper Pointe Church and Brown Mackie College, which leases space from the church, went into lockdown because police said they did not know if there were more suspects inside the building.
    
They ran a canine search as well before clearing the area after about three hours.

“Well when I pulled up, I was kind of shocked. I saw everybody on the side of the road and I said, what's going on? So I asked the cop and he just told me of the situation that somebody broke into the church and they may still be inside,” Jennifer Fernandez said.

Police have identified the man as Robert Crespin, who worked for a cleaning crew.
    
Police say Crespin had a key to the church and that he was supposed to have been at Copper Pointe Monday night.
 
But they say he should have left by 10 p.m.
    
Crespin has been arrested for criminal trespassing.
    
Police have not said why he was inside the church, or what he was doing there.
    
Crespin has been fired by the cleaning company.
    
He is currently on probation for aggravated attempted burglary.
