SILVER CITY, N.M. (KRQE) - An Albuquerque teenager accused of murdering his father during a hunting trip won't be appearing in court until next year.
Thomas Manning, 16, was scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Silver City Monday. That hearing has now been reset for January.
Prosecutors, rather than taking a case to a grand jury, often request preliminary hearings to let a judge decide if there is enough evidence for a criminal case to proceed.
Manning is accused of shooting his father Jeffrey in the back of the head while they were hunting about 35 miles northeast of Silver City in the Gila National Fores last month.
The boy is charged with murder and is being held on a $500,000 bond.
