FARMINGTON, N.M. (KRQE-KREZ) - Investigators believe an electrical problem started a fire that killed two adults and almost killed a 9-year-old girl in Farmington early Tuesday.
Paramedics brought the child back to life at the scene of the mobile home fire at 2304 South Side River Road.
When firefighters first got to the scene, they said the two adults and little girl were dead.
Emergency crews brought the young girl outside the home where they revived her.
"I saw them carry a small child out and put her on a gurney and the ambulance took her to the hospital," neighbor Ernie Minert said.
It was too late for the adults, though.
"You could see them pushing the chest down and using the oxygen mask to try to get them breathing again, but they didn't have much results," Minert said.
Farmington Fire Department Battalion Chief Nick Mrzlak said the fire started around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. When the first crews got to the scene they found flames and smoke coming from the mobile home.
Firefighters tackled the blaze quickly but the mobile home was destroyed.
Late Tuesday Farmington Fire Marshal Herb Vesey told KRQE News 13 an electrical malfunction in the east bedroom sparked the fire.
Fire officials believe the two adults, a man and a woman, died from smoke inhalation.
"We weren't able to find any smoke detectors in the house," Mrzlak said.
No names have been released yet. Investigators also are not saying if the two adults killed were the girl's parents.
