ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A suspected bank robber fleeing on a scooter didn't get far Friday when he failed to make a turn and crashed into a police car, according to Albuquerque police.
The holdup was reported just before noon at New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union at 6500 Indian School NE. Witnesses described the robber as a tall, slender Anglo man with a black jacket and black hat but couldn't say which way he went.
Police had no sooner broadcast that description when the driver of a Vespa scooter heading east on Indian School less than a mile from the bank tried to turn onto Pennsylvania NE and hit the police car.
The man matched the description of the robber and was taken into custody, police said.
His name and the extent of any injuries suffered in the crash have not been released.
News 13 was at the scene of the arrest and is planning reports for newscasts at 4 and 5:30 p.m. and later this evening. KRQE.com will update this report as more information becomes available.
