ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An autopsy will be performed on an Albuquerque man who died Thursday after an altercation with police.

Jerry Perea, 38, was wanted in a domestic violence case when police spotted him in the North Valley.

When police confronted him, officers say Perea attacked them, cutting one officer with a crucifix. During the struggle, police used a stun gun on Perea to subdue him. Perea appeared to be fine but paramedics, who had been called to treat the officers and Perea, were not able to revive him.

Perea had an extensive criminal history including battery on police officers.
