CHIMAYO, N.M. (KRQE) - The brother of former Rio Arriba County Sheriff Nelson Cordova was arrested Saturday night after he fled the scene of a fatal accident.

The Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s office says 56-year-old Juan de Dios Cordova was driving along state road 76 outside of Chimayo when he swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a motorcycle.

One man from the motorcycle is dead and his wife is on life-support at a Santa Fe hospital.

Two other motorcycles were involved in the crash, but the four other victims do not have life threatening injuries.

The sheriff’s office says Cordova fled the scene around six Saturday evening, but other witnesses were able to get car information.

Cordova is charged with vehicular homicide, fleeing a scene of a deadly accident, and DWI.
