ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Correction: In the original television broadcast of the story, it was reported that the charges from the April case were dismissed. As the web story states, online court records show the case is still pending.
On the field, Anthony Hooks was UNM football's iron man.
Hooks, 22, started 36 straight games as a Lobo defensive back. His job in four years with the team from 2008-11 was to make trouble for opposing quarterbacks.
Now he's in trouble with the law.
According to a criminal complaint, Hooks' girlfriend told UNM police that the two were arguing at Lobo Village on Nov. 14 when Hooks threw a bottle of liquor at her face and then took off in her car.
When Hooks' girlfriend called him with police listening in, Hooks apparently told her he had a handgun and would shoot himself to avoid going to jail. Officers later recovered the girlfriend's car at Hooks' home and found Hooks himself in his own car at Lobo Village.
Hooks was booked into MDC and charged with two felonies, domestic violence and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle. Online jail records show he was released Nov. 16.
This is not Hooks' first run-in with police this year. According to another criminal complaint from April, Hooks went over to an ex-girlfriend's house to take his son when her new boyfriend stepped in. Hooks was charged with domestic violence for shoving him in the chest. Online court records show that case is pending.
