SANTA FE (KRQE) - Carlos Fierro has come to an agreement with prosecutors before sentencing occurs for his vehicular homicide conviction.

Late Friday morning, Fierro pleaded guilty to the vehicular homicide charge that he was convicted of.

Also, he pleaded no contest to leaving the scene of an accident. In his trial, he was acquitted of that charge.

Fierro will serve seven years in prison as part of the deal.

On Nov. 26, 2009, Fierro crashed into pedestrian William Tenorio and then drove away from the scene. Tenorio later died.

Fierro and former state trooper Alfred Lovato were drinking earlier in the night. A blood alcohol test showed Fierro was more than two times the presumed level of intoxication.

Friday morning, the victim's brother David Tenorio said his family accepts the deal, but still grieves because there is light at the end of the tunnel for Fierro.

A sentencing plea deal is very unusual. Lovato is also scheduled to be tried for vehicular homicide.
