FBI releases more photos in Ray case

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - The FBI released new photos of jewelry, clothing and other items found in David Parker Ray’s torture trailer and home.

Ray was a serial rapist who kidnapped and tortured his victims.

Agents believe he was also a serial killer and on Tuesday a new search for bodies starts in an area of Elephant Butte Lake that has gone dry.

The FBI said if the remains are there, its agents will find them.  In the meantime it's hoping people will recognize the items in the photos and come forward.

“We hope to get that out to jog people’s memories,” said FBI Public Information Specialist Frank Fisher.

Clothes, shoes even a bracelet with the name ‘Linda’ on it, those are just a few of the items shown in the hundreds of newly released photos of items found in Ray's trailer he called his toy box, as well as his home near Elephant Butte Lake.

“This was equipped with all sorts of torture devices, pornographic pictures, he called it the den of Satan,” Fisher said.

Ray died of heart failure in prison in 2002, shortly after he was sentenced to more than 220 years behind bars for sexual torture.

Fisher said Ray, by his own admission, may have had as many as 40 victims since the 1950’s.

Authorities have long believed his torture turned into murder, but they’ve never been able to find any bodies.

Tuesday morning the FBI, state police and Albuquerque police will once again search Elephant Butte Lake for the remains of Ray’s victims.

“We have strong suspicions that he did kill some of them, again we don’t know how many but we have witness reports that seem to indicate that he did do some killings,” said Fisher.

This time searchers will focus on a specific area of the lake, the southeast side.

Agents would only say that new information led them to that location.

“We think it’s a very good lead this is very good evidence, we plan to spend all day out there searching,” Fisher said.

Agents also hope the public can help them identify the items which could perhaps lead them to more victims.
