ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - How did seven large boxes containing private information from the FBI end up at a donation drop-off site? That is what the chief of the Metropolitan Detention Center wants to know.
Lorraine Maestas went to drop off some items at a Big Brothers-Big Sisters drop-off site outside a grocery store on Coors when she noticed one of the boxes. She looked inside and saw papers and letters from the FBI to MDC. The letters date back a decade and contain fingerprint records from inmates, as well as their criminal histories.
Maestas called News 13 and we contacted the Feds and MDC about the documents.
The FBI said six more boxes were discovered inside the drop-off site.
MDC is conducting an investigation and said if an employee is responsible, they will be disciplined.
An FBI spokesman said he would not comment because the paperwork now belongs to MDC
