ALBUQEURQUE (KRQE) - Officials say a violent fight that happened on 12th street near Candelaria Monday night was between a father and son.
Police have arrested Andrew Coppler and booked him on charges of aggravated battery on a household member.
Detectives say Andrew got into a fight with his father, Keith, at a family barbecue Monday night after the two had been drinking.
Police say Andrew then slashed at his father with a steak knife.
Keith then reportedly attacked Andrew with a machete.
The fight ended when the younger man reportedly choked his father causing him to lose consciousness.
Keith was transported to UNMH where he is on life support and in critical condition.
