West Side crash kills driver

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - One person died and another was airlifted to a hospital after a two-vehicle crash Friday night that shut down part of a major Wesr Side thoroughfare near Cottonwood Mall.

The crash on Coors Bypass NW happened around 6 p.m. when a car and an SUV collided.

The driver of one vehicle died at the scene, and a passenger in the vehicle was taken by helicopter to UNM Hospital with what were described as significant injuries.

Coors Bypass heading northwest toward Rio Rancho were closed at Coors Boulevard during the investigation.

As of Saturday morning Albuquerque police had released no additional details on the crash.

The medical condition of the second victim is not known, and it also is not known if anyone in the second vehicle was injured.
