FARMINGTON, N.M. (KRQE) - Farmington Police say a thief has been busy raiding three of Farmington Mini-Storage Unit’s locations around town.
Computers, stereo equipment and even tires, those are just a few of the items Farmington Police accuse 30-year-old Jason Webb of stealing from storage units over several weeks.
The units hit are all owned by Farmington Mini-Storage.
Detective Sgt/ Robert Perez said sometimes Webb would be in and out in a flash, but on other occasions he took his time.
“It does seem that he at some points would gain entry, take kind of an inventory of what was in the facility and then come back at a later time,” Perez said.
To cover his tracks detectives alleged Webb cut the locks off units and then installed his own. His tactics worked for a while, but Webb’s spree ended Monday when police said he was caught in the act.
“(He) actually admitted to several burglaries of these storage facilities,” Perez said.
Police served a search warrant on Webb’s home, and inside they reported finding some of the stolen goods. And the rest of it?
“It’s a possibility that much of this property was sold and or traded for drugs,” Perez said.
Police don’t believe Webb acted alone. They said his girlfriend was acting as a lookout when they were caught Monday, but so far she has not been charged with anything.
Meanwhile detectives are still trying to find all of the victims. Some might not even know their stuff is missing.
“We may still have units that appear to be secure but have locks on them that were not placed on there by the renter,” Perez said.
A storage user who did not want to be identified told News 13 his unit was not hit, but that the burglaries are unsettling.
“Once we get a storage locker we’d like to think that it was safe,” the man said.
Webb faces two counts of commercial burglary and other charges.
Police are asking anyone who rents from Farmington Mini-Storage to check out their unit and call them if anything is missing.
