ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Former city councilor and state Rep. Greg Payne pleaded guilty Tuesday to DWI.
Payne was pulled over in Albuquerque two weeks ago and blew a 0.16 on a Breathalyzer test, twice the legal limit for presumed intoxication under state law.
He was charged with aggravated DWI and abandonment and cruelty to children because he had left his 9- and 7-year-old kids home alone.
Payne pleaded guilty to first-offense DWI, and the district attorney's office agreed to drop the child-abandonment charges.
Payne was immediately sentenced to the DWI first-offenders program, given one year probation and ordered to put an ignition interlock on his vehicle.
Payne's attorney says his client is now attending Alcoholics Anonymous.
