Ex-cop's many charges end in probation

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - April Sanchez's troubles started more than a year ago after she admitted to driving drunk, going to her ex-husband's home, keying his SUV and throwing a brick through the windshield.
She got in trouble again a year later, again busted for driving drunk and accused of punching a security guard at Hard Rock Casino.
Sanchez had resigned from the Albuquerque Police Department after being arrested in the July 2011 incident involving her ex-husband.
On Friday she faced a judge who decided Sanchez is turning her life around and shouldn't go to jail.
Charges from both incidents were all combined for her sentencing for DWI and vandalism.
She could have received one year and nine months in jail, but Judge Samuel Winder gave her 2 1/2 years of supervised probation. Winder encouraged Sanchez to press forward and do the right thing.
Sanchez will also have to undergo anger-management counseling and was ordered to avoid all drinking and gambling. She also can't come into contact with her ex-husband.
