ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The former sheriff's deputy accused of robbing two pharmacies in Santa Fe is doing better after apparently overdosing on drugs.
The Albuquerque Journal reported on George Smith's condition on Wednesday.
Investigators found Smith unconscious in a hotel in Albuquerque on Saturday a few days after his wife, a prosecutor, said she recognized him from surveillance video from the pharmacy heists.
Investigators said they found prescription painkillers in the room with Smith.
He used to be a sheriff's deputy in Rio Arriba County and in South Carolina.
